Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about iO-Sphere's data and AI training — funding, eligibility, programmes, and more.

General

What does iO-Sphere do?+

iO-Sphere is a UK-based data and AI training provider. We offer funded qualifications (through the Growth & Skills Levy), professional short courses, intensive bootcamps, and corporate training. We've trained 900+ professionals since 2022.

What makes iO-Sphere different from other training providers?+

Three things. First, Prism — our proprietary platform with 500M+ rows of real e-commerce data. You solve real business problems, not hypothetical case studies. Second, our coaches are industry practitioners from companies like PwC, Mastercard, and DataCamp — not lecturers. Third, our programmes lead to nationally recognised qualifications (NCFE, Department for Education standards, Ofqual-regulated awards from The AI Board).

What tools and technologies will I learn?+

Depending on your programme: SQL, Python, Power BI, Excel, Google Cloud, Apache Airflow, BigQuery, and generative AI tools. Our curriculum is updated regularly to reflect what employers actually hire for.

Funded Qualifications (Growth & Skills Levy)

What are funded qualifications?+

These are Level 3-5 qualifications funded through the Growth & Skills Levy — a UK government scheme. If you're employed in England, the training costs nothing to you or your employer (for levy-paying organisations). We offer 6 funded programmes: AI Transformation (L4), Data & AI Essentials (L3), Data Engineering (L5), Advanced Data & AI (L4), Data & AI Strategy (L4), and Data & AI Governance (L4).

How much time do funded qualifications take?+

6 hours per week: 2 hours in a live session with your coach and cohort, 2 hours of self-paced learning, and 2 hours of dedicated project work. All programmes run for 15 months plus 3 months of end-point assessment.

Who is eligible for funded training?+

You need to be 19 or over, employed in England under PAYE, with the right to work in the UK and 3 years' UK/EU residency. You don't need a degree or a technical background. GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent) are required.

What if my employer doesn't pay the levy?+

Employers with a payroll under £3 million don't pay the levy directly, but the government covers 95% of the training cost — the employer contributes just 5%. In many cases, we can help arrange a levy transfer from a larger employer. Either way, nothing comes out of your pocket.

What if my employer says no?+

They almost never do. Our team preps you on exactly what to say, and if it helps, we'll join the conversation with your manager directly. We handle the employer side of this every single day.

Intensive Bootcamps

What are the intensive bootcamps?+

14-week full-time career-change programmes in Data Analytics and Data Engineering. You'll earn an NCFE Level 4 qualification and get 6 months of career coaching. Pricing starts from £4,800 with multiple payment options including deferred payment (pay when employed and earning over £25K).

Do I need experience to join a bootcamp?+

No prior data experience is required. Our bootcamps are designed for career changers from any background. What matters is aptitude, curiosity, and commitment.

Applied Diplomas

What's an Applied Diploma?+

An Applied Diploma (Higher Technical Qualification) is a Level 4 or 5 qualification developed against employer-led standards. Our Applied Diplomas in Data Analytics and Data Engineering are co-designed with industry and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE). They're rigorous, employer-recognised qualifications — not certificates of attendance.

Do I need to be employed to study an Applied Diploma?+

No — unlike funded qualifications (apprenticeships), Applied Diplomas are self-funded or employer-sponsored. You can study while employed, self-employed, or between roles. Many learners use employer L&D budgets or interest-free payment plans.

How is an Applied Diploma different from an apprenticeship?+

Both lead to nationally recognised qualifications and use the same real-world curriculum. The key difference is funding: apprenticeships are funded through the Growth & Skills Levy (free if eligible) and require employer enrolment. Applied Diplomas are self-funded or employer-sponsored, giving you flexibility to study without employer sign-off.

What payment options are there for Applied Diplomas?+

You can pay in full upfront (with a 5% discount), or spread the cost across interest-free monthly instalments. Some employers cover the cost as part of L&D budgets. We can provide an invoice and training agreement for employer purchase orders.

Will I get a job at the end?+

We don't guarantee jobs — that's not honest and it's not useful. What we guarantee is that you'll graduate with a nationally recognised qualification, a portfolio of real work, and 6 months of career coaching. Our placement rates speak for themselves: over 90% of iO-Sphere graduates move into data roles within 6 months.

For Businesses

Do you offer corporate training?+

Yes. We offer Data & AI Fluency programmes for non-technical teams, Technical Upskilling for existing data professionals, and bespoke training designed around your tech stack and business challenges. We also deliver funded qualifications for employees via the Growth & Skills Levy.

How do I get started with corporate training?+

Book a free consultation. We'll understand your team's needs, design a programme, and handle delivery. For funded qualifications, we manage all the levy paperwork. Contact us at info@io-sphere.io or through the website.

Hiring

Can you help us hire data talent?+

Yes. Through our Hire Talent service, you can access iO-Sphere graduates who have been trained on real data, earn a nationally recognised qualification, and are job-ready from day one. All candidates are pre-vetted and come with a skills profile so you know exactly what you're getting.

How is hiring from iO-Sphere different from using a recruiter?+

Traditional recruiters find CVs. We produce the talent. Every candidate you hire through us has completed the same rigorous programme — real data, practitioner coaching, nationally recognised qualification. You know exactly what skills they have before the first interview.

How do I register an interest in hiring iO-Sphere talent?+

Get in touch via the Hire Talent page or email us at info@io-sphere.io. We'll share the candidate pipeline, skills profiles, and availability. There's no fee for registering interest.
