You know your way around SQL, Excel and a BI tool, and you've used them to answer questions that mattered at work. Now you want to do something different with it.

This is a permanent job with two kinds of learner. You start by coaching career changers into data jobs on our Oxford bootcamp, then coach working professionals on our apprenticeships.

We're also hiring for the Oxford bootcamp on a four-month contract, if you only want one cohort. Apply for whichever suits you and we'll talk to you about both.

What you'd do

You start with one cohort of career changers on our Oxford bootcamp, working towards a nationally recognised data qualification over 10 weeks from 16 November. It's mostly online, from session packs we've already built, with six in-person days in Oxford. Your job is to get them good enough to be hired.

After that, you move onto our apprenticeships, coaching working professionals over 15 months as they learn alongside their jobs. That's usually data analytics, but it could be business analysis or governance if that's your background. You keep the same learners for the whole programme, and depending on what we're running, you'll also coach teams on our commercial training and more bootcamp cohorts.

Your week

  • On the bootcamp: live sessions online and the in-person days in Oxford, drop-ins and one-to-ones so nobody falls behind, and marking in iO Academy, our learning platform, which drafts feedback for you to check and send.
  • Getting them hired: CVs, portfolios and interview practice as they move into data roles.
  • After the bootcamp: a two-hour session online for each cohort at the same time every week, during working hours. You're leading it on camera, so you need to be good at holding a room. Full-time, that's usually three or four of these a week, plus other delivery on our bootcamps and commercial training as needed, with a caseload of around 40 learners.
  • Onboarding new learners, including their information, advice and guidance (IAG) at the start of the programme.
  • A one-to-one with each learner every month, and a review every quarter with each learner and their manager.
  • Feedback on their work within 48 hours.
  • Keeping good records. We're a regulated provider, and learners' qualifications depend on the evidence.

And because we're a startup, there'll be other things to pick up as we grow, so we'd expect you to help where it's needed.

Why you'd want it

You'll watch career changers go from their first SQL query to a job interview, then working professionals become the person their team goes to for the numbers. That never gets old. We're rated 4.8 on Google, and that's because of our coaches.

And we're a startup at an inflection point. 2027 is when we scale, with new programmes and a bigger team. We haven't finished working out how we coach, and we want your ideas. If you see a better way to teach something, we'll actually do it.

Who you are

You've done proper analysis at work, with Excel, SQL and a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau. We don't ask for a set number of years, and we hire from junior to senior. You're good in front of a group. You can explain something complicated to someone from a different background without talking down to them. You take ownership, you're organised, and you're comfortable in a fast-moving environment.

You don't need teaching experience. Our coaches came from places like Accenture, Dialpad, Black Swan Data, BT and Three, and we'll teach you to coach. We pay for the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and support you with observation and feedback while you settle in.

You do need to really want to coach, because that's most of your week. If that's what you want to do, we want to hear from you.

About iO-Sphere

We train people in data and AI by having them do the work. On the bootcamp, learners work in Prism, a simulated business we built on 500 million rows of real data. Over 1,000 people have trained with us, and companies including PwC, BAE Systems, Dunelm, Motorway and CBRE send their teams to us. We're one of the UK's fastest-growing data and AI training companies, and a small, tight-knit team that takes ownership, sets a high bar and has a lot of fun.

What the role must achieve

  1. 1Every learner in your Oxford cohort completes the bootcamp and submits for the NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Data.
  2. 2Live sessions people want to turn up to, and nobody falls behind unnoticed: anyone at risk is spotted and supported within the week.
  3. 3Work is marked within the agreed turnaround, with feedback learners can act on.
  4. 4After the bootcamp, apprentices on your caseload are onboarded properly, with their IAG at the start, and have their monthly one-to-ones and quarterly employer reviews on time.
  5. 5Records and evidence are complete enough to stand up to inspection.

What you'll need

We shortlist against these, scored the same way for everyone:

  • Hands-on data analysis experience with Excel, SQL and at least one BI tool
  • Able to explain technical ideas clearly to people from non-technical backgrounds
  • Available full-time from mid-November, including six in-person days in Oxford
  • The unrestricted right to work in the UK

Good to have, but not needed:

  • Experience running live sessions, workshops or talks
  • Experience coaching, training or mentoring others
  • Skills Bootcamp, apprenticeship or adult education delivery
  • The Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or willingness to complete it (funded)

Safeguarding

iO-Sphere is committed to safeguarding and operates within regulated Further Education environments. This role requires an enhanced DBS check, and safeguarding and Prevent training. All applicants must complete their application honestly and in full, and consent to the pre-employment checks required for the role. Failure to disclose relevant information, or providing false information, will result in the application being withdrawn or employment being terminated.

A criminal record does not automatically stop you from being considered. We assess each case individually.

Your safeguarding responsibilities in this role

iO-Sphere is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the learners and apprentices we train, and expects every member of staff to share that commitment. In this role you are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the learners you coach: you complete Safeguarding and Prevent training before you start, you know the signs of harm and radicalisation, you report any concern to our Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day, and you keep learners' information confidential.

Checks and conditions

Any offer depends on: two written references (one from your current or most recent employer, which will ask about your suitability to work with young people and adults at risk), an enhanced DBS check, confirmation of your qualifications, proof of your right to work, and completing Safeguarding, Prevent and Equality and Diversity training. Our interviews ask about safeguarding and any gaps in your employment history.
